They moved us into some crappy building and my fucking cube has no walls basically and its right on the hallways near a bunch of doorways. Half the ppl on the floor are screwed with the same crap as me. There's literally no privacy anymore. It's fucking awful!!! FUCK YOU ACS!!!

Motazar, feel free to add to this thread and curse out ACS too.. just make sure ppl aren't fucking LOOKING INTO YOUR CUBE AND WATCHING, since its so fuckin easy to see everyone's shit now!!! This kinda just adds to the fact that a lot of ppl were ready to leave anyway. I'll bet a lot of ppl leave cause of this extra kick in the face from them.

I'm going to be looking for a new job now, and possibly move out of IT infrastructure over to a development job if I can get one. If anyone know of any good positions hiring, let me know please :) Maybe Blizzard would hire me to do something stupid like "Ok, you get to be the guy who codes in the emote commands to make murloc noises"

Ok.. ranting done. Have a good day!

Here's another crappy job.

I work from 9 pm to 5:30 AM.

I put heavy objects on the shelves at home depot, lots of them. I have to be careful to have clothing that fits exactly right or there will be severe chafing.

Even though I go as fast as a person reasonably could, the boss guy always wanders by and looks at me and says "Aren't you done yet? jeez!" It has become something of a joke, though.

When something weighs like 150 pounds and doesn't fit on the floor, then I take it up 16 feet into the overhead racks with a picker. Initially this scared me and kind of gave me a vertigo feeling, but I got used to it. It makes it much easier, you go way up there and push the cast iron bathtub/dishwasher/fridge onto the shelf.

Its a lot better now that it is colder here. During the summer, they'd turn off the air at night and it was hotter than heck in there. I'd sweat like mad. I think I lost 25 pounds the first few months (and I wasn't "fat" to start with.)

Working overnight at a job like that is odd. I sleep during the day and even if I sleep for 8 hours I hardly feel like I slept at all. Then I have to wake up and drag myself around, piddle around a bit, then get ready to work again. I have to make sure I do lots of stretching too, so I can walk that night and move freight again. I'm pretty much on the run all night long.

What was that you were saying about a cubicle? Oh, people can see you working now? Oh ok.

I seriously wouldn't mind doing your job at all... if it paid the same I'd easily pick that instead.

It's pretty shitty when you have to fix critical apps for a big company (while managers and shit are hounding you) and people are just walking around past you yapping away. I'm right on a corner too, near a bunch of different doors. I might as well sit in the lobby with my laptop. At least I would be able to face the screen away there so ppl aren't watching me surf the Fight site!

It's just ACS kicking their employees in the face. Supposedly the halfass cubes they got were from some other company throwing them out :) That's so piss poor hahaha.

After thanksgiving, I'm going to need to pull some more bookcases over and macgyver myself a bigger wall.

Do like in office space, but in reverse.

Just be drilling some particle board around your desk one day.

Even though you were shot down by Krom, I agree with your hatred of the whole "open workspace" idea. At work we use some stupid ass system by herman miller. You can see pictures of it here: http://www.hermanmiller.com/CDA/SSA/Product/0,1592,a10-c440-p150,00.html . At least they gave us full height "privacy" screens so we can't see the people in front of us.

It's not that I care that ppl are near me.. in fact I wouldnt even mind sharing a "big cube" with 2-3 ppl I actually WORK with... its all the ppl walking down the isle near me, and the fact that theres a noisy lab server room right near it, and ppl opening that door going in and out. I'm gonna go crazy if I'm trying to work on a sev-1 ticket for the security product I work with, and theres ppl walking around all over. It's really a kick in the face for 3rd level support to have to deal with a shitty work environment.

Haha I got a nice wall of bookshelves to block my cube in now. It's a big improvement, altho this spot still sucks. Supposedly the fire marshall said that we can't do this for some areas, even tho the entire floor has bookshelves for every cube, so they ordered wall additions for us finally.

Dolan and I had the same kind of problem, high traffic area where corridor "meetings" would always be happening, people walking up behind us and us not realizing they were there watching us until we go the "humph humph".

We actually are the only cubes now (that I know of) where we flipped them and made out opening smaller, but we are looking at the opening now. (Also helps to watch the couple nice sets of legs that walk by). Also helps now that our laptop screens are at an angle that people can't look at until they are in the cube.

So I can feel for your cube issues.

They are reconfiguring our workspaces into open-area cubicles.

Right now I am Pit Fighter with a 6 sided "office" and soon I'll be a 4 sided cube dweller with a slidable whiteboard that will act as the fifth wall.

Soon, gay!

But I like my paycheck and working for Travelocity is fun!

My brothers and father are in construction and it pays well, but I can't imagine being that broken down at the end of each day.

Right now I have a pretty sweet job. I'm the UNIX server admin for space weather programs for Air Force Space Command. But starting early next year, I'm retraining into Airborne Combat Communications. This means I get assigned to a specific aircraft, hopefully the AWACS, and fly all over the world in it, performing system analysis and maintenance on the communications equipment. Don't you wish you were me? I love my job.

yeah In my semi peon job I can't be fired. I'd have to like either be promoted several times, or kill someone/miss several days of work without calling in.

I'm actually really needed, since they can't get people to do this job on the nightshift.

I am Union. My only threat is going mad and blowing something up. BTW I need some character witnesses to say how nice I am and that you never thought I was capable of anything like that. PST me if you think you can do it.
